Many people plan to visit Robert Mugabe International Airport today. They want to greet Kirsty Coventry when she returns home. Coventry became the International Olympic Committee president last Wednesday. She won against six other candidates in the election. Many thought Lord Sebastian Coe or Juan Antonio Samaranch would win. Coventry made history as the first African person and first woman to lead the IOC. The organization has existed for more than a century. The Sport and Recreation Commission planned a special welcome for her arrival. When her plane lands at 4 pm, people will celebrate with traditional songs and dances. The important election happened in Greece on Wednesday. Many Zimbabweans feel proud of their Sports Minister because of her new job. Ms Samukeliso Silengane from women's soccer said the appointment shows Zimbabwe values skill above all else. She mentioned this proves the President made a smart choice. Silengane added that this success helps all women. She thinks it pushes others to seek public jobs where they can make changes. Silengane pointed out that Coventry represents women very well worldwide. She believes Coventry will succeed again because women work hard for results. Silengane wants more women to reach high positions like Coventry did. She stressed that women deserve equal treatment in sports and everyday life. Silengane has worked with women's soccer clubs before. FC Platinum spokesperson Chido Chizondo called the achievement important for everyone.
