The New Patriotic Party will choose their next leader on January 31, 2026. Party officials made this decision during their meeting in Accra on Tuesday, June 17. Bawumia led the NPP into the 2024 elections where they suffered their worst defeat ever. He has not officially announced his campaign plans for the upcoming contest.

Several NPP lawmakers visited Bawumia's office on Thursday to show their support. He thanked them and said their backing would help him decide about running again. Both Bawumia and Kennedy Agyapong camps claim most parliament members support their candidate. Agyapong has already said he will compete for the party leadership position. Other people considering the race are Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, Bryan Acheampong, and Kwabena Agyei Agyepong.
