A middle-aged Korean tourist had a terrible accident last night when he tumbled into a deep drainage ditch near a Kuching apartment building. The man was walking around Lorong B4 BDC when he suddenly dropped into the concrete channel that measured about eight feet from top to bottom. Emergency services got the call at 8:25 in the evening and rushed to help the trapped foreigner. Seven rescue workers from the Tabuan Jaya fire station grabbed their gear and headed straight to the scene. The victim was stuck at the bottom of the drain and could not climb out on his own. Fire department crews found the Korean man standing upright but gripping his injured left leg. He appeared to be in serious pain from the fall and needed immediate medical help. The rescue team lowered a ladder down into the drainage channel to reach the accident victim. They carefully helped him climb back up to street level where paramedics were waiting. The entire rescue mission took just 21 minutes from start to finish. Ambulance workers took over once the man was safely out of the drain. They checked his injuries and prepared him for transport to the hospital. The fire crew made sure the area was secure before packing up their equipment. Officials closed the emergency response at 8:46 that same evening. The Korean man received proper medical treatment for his damaged leg.
