The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service wants students to apply for diploma teacher training courses at public teacher training colleges. Students can study to become primary or secondary school teachers. The deadline to apply is March 20, 2025. Students must submit their applications online using the KUCCPS student portal. If they need help with the application process, they can visit a nearby Huduma Center. Primary school teachers must have a diploma qualification now that the P1 certificate has been phased out. President William Ruto wants to improve the teacher-student ratio in all public primary and secondary schools. The government plans to hire 120,000 teachers over the next three years. This will create opportunities for more teachers to be trained. The National Treasury said in January that 12,000 teachers will be hired first. Half of them will have permanent jobs with pensions. The other 6,000 will work as interns. The Kenya Primary Education Equity in Learning Programme will pay for these new teachers. The secondary education quality improvement project will hire another 108,000 teachers over the next three years. The education sector working report shows that 18,000 permanent teachers will be hired next year and in each of the following two years. The education stakeholders have asked the Treasury to approve their budget proposal. They want to hire 18,000 more teachers as interns next year. They plan to do the same in the 2026-27 and 2027-28 fiscal years.
