Kumwenda fought the move, calling it illegal and asking the court for a review. The court agreed his case had merit. It issued an injunction to block the transfer until a full judicial review happens. This means the government cannot make him take the lecturer post for now.

Because of this ruling, Kumwenda stays as the CEO of ESCOM. The leadership of the national power company remains unchanged while the legal process plays out. The court essentially pressed pause on the whole situation until it can take a deeper look at the government's decision.
