The Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park crushed all competition to become Ghana's hottest tourist spot for the second year running. The park pulled in a massive 333,233 visitors during 2024 and grabbed 20 percent of all tourist traffic across the country. Local people made up most of the crowds with 297,730 residents visiting compared to just 40,503 foreigners. Tourism bosses released the numbers during their annual report launch in Accra. The memorial park beat nine other major attractions to claim the top prize again. Kakum National Park with its famous canopy walk came second with 183,757 visitors while Bunso Arboretum grabbed third place. The Kumasi Zoo landed in fourth spot and Cape Coast Castle rounded out the top five attractions. Manhyia Palace, Elmina Castle, Accra Zoo, Shai Hills Resource Reserve and Aburi Botanical Garden filled out the remaining spots. Tourism officials say residents continue to dominate visitor numbers at almost every location across Ghana. The report shows domestic tourism keeps growing stronger each year. December in Ghana festivals have turned into massive money makers for the country during holiday season. Events like AfroFuture and Detty December bring thousands of young visitors from overseas back home to party. Airport surveys reveal these December celebrations attract repeat travelers who spend big money during their visits. Airbnb rentals have exploded across Ghana as more tourists choose private homes over traditional hotels. The tourism industry expects continued growth as infrastructure improvements and marketing campaigns attract even more visitors.
