[QUOTE="Nehanda, post: 24895, member: 2262"] Lagos Deploys Smart Traffic Systems to Curb Speeding, Enhance Road Safety. The Lagos State Ministry of Transportation has installed four new Intelligent Transport System sites in partnership with Huawei Technologies. These installations aim to monitor traffic violations and manage traffic flow across the city. Transportation Commissioner Oluwaseun Osiyemi announced the deployment during a Thursday press briefing. The new systems will work alongside existing Automatic Number Plate Recognition cameras and Traffic Management Solution devices. Two checkpoint locations will focus on speed limit enforcement. The Alapere site on Ogudu Road enforces an 80km/h limit, and the Nitel location on Mobolaji Bank Anthony Way maintains a 60km/h restriction. The ministry placed these checkpoints at strategic points to address speeding, which remains a major cause of road accidents. The other two e-police sites, situated at Allen Avenue Road Junction and Nurudeen Olowopopo Road, will detect various traffic violations. These include red light running, improper lane usage, unauthorized U-turns, and reverse driving on highways. The ministry set specific fines for violations: N20,000 for running red lights and N50,000 for speeding infractions. Motorists who break traffic laws will receive SMS notifications from the Vehicle Inspection Service department, outlining their violations and corresponding penalties. "This system aims to encourage responsible driving behavior and reduce accidents on our roads," Osiyemi said. "Our primary goal focuses on saving lives, protecting property, and creating an orderly transportation environment." The press briefing included several key officials: Innovation, Science and Technology Commissioner Olatunbosun Alake, Transportation Ministry Permanent Secretary Olawale Musa, Huawei Technologies representatives, and ministry directors.
