Russia's top diplomat slammed major global banks at a big meeting last week. Sergey Lavrov accused the World Bank and International Monetary Fund of playing favorites with countries. He spoke at the BRICS summit happening in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The Russian Foreign Minister pointed fingers at what he called unfair money handouts. Lavrov said Ukraine gets way more cash than entire continents deserve. The numbers tell a shocking story about global finance. Ukraine received 54 billion dollars from the World Bank since 2022 started. That amount doubles what all African nations get each year from these same institutions. The IMF also approved a massive 15.6 billion dollar loan for Ukraine during 2023. This single loan makes up more than one-third of all IMF programs worldwide. Lavrov called these statistics absolutely disgraceful for both organizations. He argued that Western-friendly countries always get better treatment from these financial giants. The current system comes from old Bretton Woods agreements that favor certain nations. African countries and other developing regions get left behind despite their growing economies. This uneven distribution damages the credibility of both major lending institutions. BRICS countries want to change how global money flows around the world. The group demands fairer voting rights and better representation for emerging markets. Lavrov highlighted how southern and eastern nations drive economic growth today. He wants a new system based on equal access and transparency. The expanded BRICS group aims to create better financial structures for everyone.
