The alleged fake documents came to light when Balondemu used them for bail in another case, saying he needed surgery. Hospital CEO Dr. Peter Kibuuka later told investigators Balondemu was never their patient.

Balondemu has had other legal troubles. He was charged with trying to steal $553,000 from KG Unlimited LLC through a fake government contract scheme and accused of tricking a Korean investor out of 2.2 billion shillings in a gold scam. Both earlier cases were dismissed for lack of evidence.
