Legal Battle Erupts Over Ownership of Harare Safari Lodge

A man named Mr Geza took over a beautiful hotel near Lake Chivero. He made the people who worked there leave, and he took their cars away. This happened in 2020 when he used his power as a war veteran to make the owner, Mr McDonald, give up his hotel.

Mr McDonald wants Mr Geza to pay one and a half million dollars for the hotel. They made a deal that Mr Geza would give him the money in two weeks. Mr Geza never paid any money at all. He just moved into the hotel without asking and started living there. People tried to make him leave because he broke their agreement, but he refused.

Mr Geza says he doesn't need to pay because the land belongs to the government. He thinks Mr McDonald can't sell the hotel because the government took the land in 2005. Mr McDonald brought the problem to court because he wanted his hotel back.

The court met last May but couldn't fix the problem. The judge said they need a big trial to answer important questions about who really owns the land. They also need to check if Mr. McDonald and Mr. Geza made a proper deal and if Mr. McDonald can cancel it.

Mr McDonald's lawyer, Mr Chigumira, says Mr Geza stole the hotel in broad daylight. Mr Geza even scared the lawyer by saying he would hurt him. Mr Geza took over more than he was supposed to. He lives in Mr McDonald's house, which wasn't part of their agreement at all.
