The Lwengo district police teamed up with local leaders to run two successful operations recently. According to police spokesperson Rusoke Kituuma, they found stolen motorcycle plates during one mission and caught seven people holding marijuana in another. Acting on helpful information from a community member, officers searched a coffee and banana farm belonging to Jumba Rashid in Lweyebere village on March 1st. Rashid had already been arrested for motorcycle theft charges before this search started.
The search team discovered several license plates, including UFC 520W, UFH 779X, and UFN 559V, hidden throughout the plantation. Police continued their work by moving to Mirembe village, where local council members helped them look through a suspect's home. They found important evidence, including a motorcycle key, three damaged plates, guards, one side mirror, three spanners, burnt motorcycle remains, and another hidden plate marked UFC 057C.
On February 28th, police carried out a different operation that focused on marijuana sellers. With help from community leaders, they targeted Colombia, Nakatete, and Kitakomaga villages located in Mabirizi parish. This mission resulted in seven arrests of people caught with large amounts of marijuana. Kituuma made sure to thank the local council members who provided crucial assistance during both operations.
Kituuma praised how the community worked with the police to make these operations successful. He explained that people living in these areas often know much more about suspicious activities than officers can discover alone. The spokesperson emphasized the importance of partnership between law enforcement and residents who understand exactly what happens in their neighborhoods each day. This cooperation helps police catch criminals more effectively despite having fewer officers spread across many areas.
