A tragic accident killed two people when a motorcycle crashed into a minibus at Chingoli village on the M3 road in Machinga. Sergeant Western Kansire from Machinga Police Station told Malawi24 that Mussa Bwanausi, 32, and his passenger Biliati Cassim, 28, both lost their lives in the crash. The police identified the minibus as a Toyota Hiace with license plate number CK 8724. Ndaona Bwenzani, a 40-year-old driver from Kalonga village in the Traditional Authority Mpondasi area of Mangochi, drove the minibus. The accident happened as the minibus traveled from Zomba toward Liwonde carrying six passengers. Sergeant Kansire explained that the driver tried to avoid potholes on the road when he slammed head-on into the unregistered motorcycle. Both Bwanausi and Cassim suffered severe head trauma from the impact. Medical staff at Machinga District Hospital declared them dead upon arrival. The minibus driver escaped with minor injuries, and none of his passengers got hurt. Police have taken the minibus driver into custody. He awaits court proceedings after paperwork processing to face charges of causing death through reckless driving. Law enforcement officials remind all drivers they must follow speed limits and pay attention to road signs and regulations at all times to prevent similar deadly accidents. Both men who died came from Katete village, which falls under Traditional Authority Malemia in Zomba.
