Malaysian corruption fighters have questioned 61 people about a troubled highway project. The anti-corruption commission chief Azam Baki told reporters his team keeps digging into the Maju Expressway extension case. Officers seized millions worth of fancy stuff from a top official last month. The investigation focuses on fake claims and crooked use of construction money. Azam gives his team just two months to wrap up the case before sending it to prosecutors. Back on May 29, corruption busters raided two homes of a wealthy businessman with a royal title. They grabbed luxury cars, expensive jewelry, designer purses and piles of cash worth 32 million ringgit. Sources say the raids happened at fancy houses in Kuala Lumpur. The title holder faces charges of lying about project costs and stealing bond money meant for road building. All the seized goodies remain locked up as evidence. The 18-kilometer highway project started back in 2016 and should have opened in December 2019. Builders planned to connect Putrajaya with the main airport near Kuala Lumpur. The road remains unfinished after years of delays and money troubles. Works Minister Alexander Nanta Linggi admitted the government tries to fix the mess. He says financial problems caused the project to stop moving forward. Azam Baki announced the witness count during a ceremony where Kelantan got a new corruption office director. The old director Rosli Husain handed over duties to replacement Azmin Yusoff. The corruption chief promises to finish the highway investigation quickly and send the case to court.
