President John Dramani Mahama will join Acting Chief Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie at the big swearing-in ceremony for Ghana Journalists Association leaders on Friday morning. The event kicks off at 9 AM at the Accra International Conference Centre where Justice Baffoe-Bonnie will give the oaths to the new bosses. About 800 journalists voted on June 30 and picked Albert Kwabena Dwumfour as president for another term. The ceremony will also see other winners like Bertha Badu-Agyei as treasurer and Rebecca Ekpe as vice president take their official jobs. Government ministers and diplomats will pack the venue to show support for press freedom in Ghana. The new leaders promise to make journalism stronger and more professional over the next three years. Regional executives from across the country will also get sworn in by superior court judges on the same day. The association wants all media people and press freedom supporters to come witness the historic moment. However, trouble brews in the Ashanti Region where officials must delay their swearing-in ceremony. The Election Dispute Committee received a complaint about the regional chairman race results from June 30. Committee chair Zakaria Tanko Musah announced the postponement until they sort out the petition. The dispute creates a bump in what should be a smooth transition for the journalism association. The Ashanti Region executives will have to wait while officials investigate the election challenge.
