Maid Seeks Back Pay for Time as Boss's "Wife."
A maid in Harare says her boss owes her two years of wages. Magumise Sherera claims Samuel Muchenjero refused to pay her. He said she was his wife and not an employee.
Muchenjero asked the court for a peace order against Sherera. He says she threatened to use witchcraft on him. "I am scared," he said. "That is why I need the court's help."
Sherera tells a different story. She says Muchenjero forced her into a sexual relationship. He promised her an allowance instead of a salary. But he never paid it.
"We lived as husband and wife for two years," Sherera said. "But he left me for another maid."
She claims Muchenjero was controlling and abusive. He would not even let her sleep properly.
"I want him to pay me for the years he slept with me," she said. "I deserve a reward for the abuse."
The magistrate granted Muchenjero a peace order. They told Sherera to take her wage claim to small claims court.
