People in Darajani, Makueni county, lost several cows when floodwaters carried them away from a bridge. The River Kambu overflowed after heavy Friday rains. A video on X shows locals trying to guide cattle across the bridge right before disaster struck. The strong water current pulled the animals one by one into the river as they tumbled downstream. Heavy rain pounded the lower eastern region Friday, causing widespread flood damage. At Katama Primary School in Mumoni, Mwingi North, powerful winds ripped roofs off six classrooms and several offices, including the principal's. The damaged rooms included a Grade 9 classroom still under construction. Headteacher Michael Ndunga told local media that the intense storms hit just after students left for home, leaving major destruction behind. The Kenya weather office announced Wednesday that rain will keep falling across the country according to their five-day forecast. They warned about possible isolated heavy rainfall in specific areas. These include the highlands east and west of Rift Valley, Lake Victoria Basin, Rift Valley, South-eastern lowlands, coastal regions, and parts of north-eastern and north-western Kenya. Weather experts predict showers and thunderstorms across numerous counties, including Kakamega, Vihiga, Busia, Bungoma, and many others. These areas will experience rain with occasional breaks of sunshine. The South-Eastern lowlands covering Machakos, Makueni, Kitui, Taita Taveta, and Kajiado should expect overnight thunderstorms. Mornings will start cloudy with some rain, clearing to sunny breaks before afternoon storms return to scattered locations.
