Malawi Sees Drop in Holiday Road Accidents

The police in Malawi have good news and bad news about Christmas driving this year. They say fewer crashes happened on the roads - only 19 crashes instead of last year's 24. That means car accidents dropped by 21 percent.

But here comes the sad part. More people died in these crashes than last year. This time, 13 people lost their lives. Last year, eight people died. The crashes hurt fewer people, though - 24 got hurt this year compared to 34 last year.

Five of the people who died were riding motorcycles, and two were walking on the road. This shows that both fast driving and careful driving matter a lot.

The police worked hard to keep people safe. They caught many drivers breaking the rules. Some drove too fast. Others packed too many people in their cars. A few drove after drinking. Many used cars that needed fixing.

The police want everyone to stay safe during the holidays. They ask drivers and pedestrians to follow the rules, which helps prevent bad things from happening on the roads.
