A court handed down a 30-year prison term to Bigboy Nampungo after he stole money from the family of Wicknell Chivayo. The 27-year-old robber admitted he helped steal $74,000 from Alfa Omega Farm, where Chivayo's in-laws live. People believe this cash came from wedding payments Chivayo gave to his bride's parents. Prosecutors divided the farm break-in into separate charges. Mrs. Jesse Kufa, the Harare regional magistrate, first gave Nampungo ten years for each of his six robbery counts. She later combined these penalties into pairs - joining counts one and two, then three and four, then five and six. This cut his total time from 60 years to 30 years behind bars. Ms. Shambadzeni Fungura showed proof of Nampungo's crimes during court. The law requires this evidence even when someone says they did wrong. Gerald Gara Muteke, age 36, farmed at Alfa Omega in Marondera. He woke up to strange noises inside his house one night. He tried to scare away the thieves by shining his phone light under his bedroom door. The gang broke through anyway and demanded cash. They searched everywhere and took $18,000, plus a Sarsilmaz pistol and two Samsung phones - an S23 Ultra and S24 Ultra. The thieves forced Muteke to show them his safe. They grabbed valuables worth $25,000 in total. Police later found items worth $2,500.
