Martha Karua, leader of the Narc Kenya party, has called for a national conference. The conference would discuss the recent wave of abductions and extrajudicial killings in Kenya. Karua said all Kenyans, religious groups, and professional organizations must stand up. They need to defend their rights and the Constitution. She urged Kenyans to unite. Kenyans must free themselves from attacks on the right to life and liberty. "We need a national civil society conference," Karua said. The conference would discuss how to address this threatening epidemic. "If one of us is not safe, then none of us is safe," she added. Karua said Kenyans must not accept abductions and extrajudicial killings as normal. This is especially true for the country's youth. She praised the Law Society of Kenya and human rights groups. They have consistently opposed the abduction epidemic. Karua noted that the "abduct and execute" epidemic started almost a year ago. Security agencies have claimed they do not know what is happening. "There has not been any change in the leadership of these institutions," she said. This is especially concerning for those tasked with internal security. Karua said it was shocking that the police claimed no knowledge of two recent abductions and murders. She said these statements are distressing and disrespectful to Kenyans. Kenyans pay these top officers well and equip them to secure the country and maintain order. These two cases are not the only recent abductions, Karua pointed out. Leslie Muturi, son of CS Justin Muturi, was also abducted. He was released after his father intervened at the highest level of government. "CS Muturi has since given a credible account," Karua said. The account traces the abduction problem to the National Intelligence Service. The Kenya National Commission on Human Rights reports that over 82 people have gone missing. The disappearances have occurred since the GenZ protests in June of last year.
