Mashonaland West Province farmers planted over 30,000 hectares of winter wheat toward their 35,000 hectare goal. James Garakara put 150 hectares under wheat through a government joint venture program that runs for 15 years. The farmer thanked President Mnangagwa for the opportunity and wants continued input support to meet planting deadlines. Government officials remain confident the province will exceed targets as long as supplies arrive on schedule. Provincial Agricultural Director Medlinah Magwenzi praised steady progress across farming areas. Agriculture Minister Anxious Masuka toured the country to check winter wheat planting progress during the current season. He urged farmers to use remaining time effectively since government already shipped inputs to beneficiaries. Masuka called agriculture central to achieving presidential development vision for Zimbabwe. The minister explained that proper farming leads to success across all economic sectors and provides food security. Cereals form the foundation of national food systems that feed citizens. Mashonaland West leads Zimbabwe wheat production with Zvimba District contributing the largest amounts nationwide. The province aims for 35,000 hectares out of the national target of 120,000 hectares across all regions. Zimbabwe wants to produce 600,000 metric tonnes of wheat during this growing season. Food self-sufficiency depends on meeting production goals through expanded farming operations. Mashonaland Central follows with 28,000 hectares as the second biggest wheat growing area.
