Recovered messages showed communications between Matlala and associates about payments totaling 38,000 rand. Mchunu denied meeting the businessman and rejected accusations as attempts to damage his reputation.

The commission examines allegations of improper influence over law enforcement appointments and procurement decisions. Party officials said they await formal findings before commenting on the matter.
