Mbumba Receives Nujoma Casket as Farewell Journey Begins

President Mbumba met the airplane that carried founding president Sam Nujoma's casket at Hosea Kutako International Airport. This airport is special because Nujoma kissed the ground there on September 14, 1989, when Namibia was almost free.

Nujoma's casket will travel through Windhoek on Thursday. After that, people will bury him during the weekend.

When Air Marshal Martin Pinehas asked President Mbumba if he wanted to join the procession, Mbumba said, "I will join." This follows the official rules.

Many important people came to the airport. Government leaders, family members, and friends all gathered to see Nujoma's casket arrive.

President Mbumba, the next president, Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, and Nujoma's oldest son, Utoni Nujoma, will receive the casket, which has traveled around the country for the past week.

The Khomas region is the last place on this journey. Fourteen motorcycles from the Namibian Defence Force will lead a parade with the casket through the streets of Windhoek.
