TSMC has nearly four times more workers with 83,000 staff members on payroll.

The size difference might explain why TSMC pays less per person. Larger companies often spread their budgets across more employees. TSMC could offer higher salaries to senior engineers and managers. MediaTek earned recognition as one of Taiwan's best employers last year.
