The government of Rwanda is working hard to fix the damage caused by bombs that were shot from DR Congo into the Rubavu District. This happened in late January when there was a lot of fighting going on in DR Congo. Many different groups were involved in the fighting, including rebels, soldiers from various countries, and even some people from Europe who were paid to fight. The bombs from DR Congo hurt many people and broke a lot of things in Rubavu District. The Ministry of Emergency Management, which is called MINEMA for short, went to see how bad the damage was. They found out that 293 houses and seven schools needed to be repaired. The bombs, including chickens, sheep, and goats, also killed some animals. MINEMA promised to fix everything by May. They want to ensure that the schools can open again and that people can return to their normal lives. The government is providing money to help with the repairs. They will spend 35 million Rwandan francs to fix the schools and over 400 million Rwandan francs to fix the homes and other badly damaged items. Some families had to leave their homes because of the bombs. The government is helping them by giving them a place to stay for three months. They are also working to fix the broken water and electricity lines. The bombs hurt one man named Parfait d'Amour Uwayo. He was hit by small pieces of metal from the explosion. He went to the hospital and had some of the pieces taken out, but he still had four pieces inside him. He is thankful for the country's air defense system that helped protect people. The bombs also damaged a school called CS Umubano IV. The head of the school, Thomas Ngizwenimana, said that the children were very scared when it happened. The bombs broke the roof, five classrooms, and windows. Sadly, one child died, and a teacher was hurt at this school. Mr. Ngizwenimana is glad that the school is being fixed so the children can go back to learning. The fighting in DR Congo is very complicated. There is a group called FDLR that is causing a lot of problems. They are a terrorist group that wants to come into Rwanda and hurt many people. They were started by some of the same people who did very bad things in Rwanda in 1994 during the Genocide against the Tutsi. The Rwandan government is doing its best to help everyone who was affected by the bombs. They want to ensure that people are safe and can have normal lives again. It will take some time to fix everything, but they are working very hard to make it happen as soon as possible.
