Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu praised Family Health University at its charter ceremony. He recognized the school for leading medical education efforts in Ghana. The Minister highlighted how Prof. Enyonam Yao Kwawukume showed great vision as Founder and vice-chancellor and noted the professor's hard work to improve healthcare across the country.
Minister Iddrisu confirmed that the university met every rule needed for its charter status. He promised government help for the school's goals of teaching quality medicine. The Minister said this support would help tackle health problems nationwide. He revealed plans for a National Research Fund that would back projects at places like Family Health University.
He encouraged the school to grow its research work, especially against cervical cancer. "The government wants private businesses to succeed, and Family Health University stands out as a great example of private investment in education," the Minister stated. Prof. Kwawukume then promised the university would focus on research with immediate action to fix health issues in Ghana.
The professor emphasized plans for extensive Papadikoulos testing, known as Pap smears, to fight cervical cancer. "If asked about our charter's benefit to communities, I would say research plus implementation. We won't just research and stop there. We'll act right away," Prof. Kwawukume explained. He thanked everyone at the event and stressed how important it is to train doctors locally.
The professor said students benefit from staying near their families during medical training. "We must partner with government to train medical students and nurses here in Ghana. They can stay with parents and loved ones, growing up in helpful environments," he added. Prof. Kwawukume also thanked the school's teachers for giving students personal attention and support throughout their studies.
Family Health University has built partnerships with respected schools like Michigan University and Virginia University. The campus features modern facilities, including a mortuary with specialized tables for teaching medical students.
