[QUOTE="Munyaradzi Mafaro, post: 46418, member: 636"] Minsa Kabanda won the National Resistance Movement nomination for Kampala Central Member of Parliament without facing any opposition. Dr Tanga Odoi leads the NRM electoral commission and made the official announcement Thursday. Two other candidates withdrew from the race before primary elections could take place. Charles Nambavu and Baker Kyambadde had collected forms to compete against Kabanda. Both men stepped aside and allowed her to claim the party nomination. Kyambadde accompanied Kabanda to the nomination ceremony and explained his decision to withdraw. He told officials that nobody forced him to quit the race. The candidate said he made the choice freely without receiving any payment or promises. Odoi declared Kabanda the winner after her rivals left the contest. The electoral commission chairman confirmed she would represent NRM at the 2026 general elections. Kabanda expressed surprise that her competitors decided to withdraw from the race. She had prepared extensively for primary elections against both men. The minister promised to work hard for victory against opposition candidates. Kampala voters have historically supported opposition parties over NRM candidates. Kabanda believes unity among party members will help change voting patterns. Muhammad Nsereko currently holds the Kampala Central seat as an independent politician. He recently announced plans to run for president at the next election. The National Unity Platform selected David Lewis Rubongoya as their candidate for the constituency. Rubongoya serves as secretary general for the opposition party and will face Kabanda at the polls.
