[QUOTE="Nehanda, post: 27482, member: 2262"] President Mnangagwa will soon call together all SADC country leaders. He needs their help with the growing danger in eastern Congo. They must discuss what came from the online meeting held on Thursday. SADC officials said they might meet in Harare but haven't picked the exact day yet. Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan ran the online meeting because she heads up the SADC safety group. They talked about ways to bring peace back to Congo and looked at what the SADC soldiers should do there going forward. Leaders from Malawi, Zambia, South Africa, and Congo joined the video call. President Hassan promised SADC stands ready to help Congo find peace. She said neighboring countries must stick together during these hard times. The group sent deep sympathy to families of soldiers killed during attacks. These brave men came from Congo, South Africa, Malawi and Tanzania. SADC sent troops to Congo last December to calm the area. These forces face tough fights against M23 rebels who keep moving forward. Many soldiers have died trying to protect people there. The group pledged more help as promised under their defense agreement from 2003. Even with help from both SADC and East African nations, the fighting keeps getting worse. M23 rebels used to control just Goma city in North Kivu province. They have pushed into Bukavu city in South Kivu and set up their leaders there. The war has caused terrible suffering. Over one million Congo people have run away to other countries for safety. Another 21 million people inside Congo need doctors, food and basic items right away. Almost 358,000 folks have lost their homes since early last year. Armed groups caused 80 percent of these moves. United Nations reports show 30 percent more crimes against children than last year.
