Right. Another sports admin drama, shocker. James Moloi, the president of Athletics South Africa, is apparently back in his job after some disciplinary nonsense. A hearing in Houghton, Johannesburg, just cleared him, dropping all charges and lifting his suspension. This whole thing was about accusations he used the organization's credit card for personal stuff. The guy overseeing the hearing was a legal professional named Moseneke. So the background here is a typical bureaucratic mess. Some committee for South African sports, SASCOC, started poking around last October. They found spending on the ASA card that looked suspicious, things like food, booze, and travel that seemed personal. Moloi argued some expenses were for schmoozing potential sponsors. The whole thing got dragged into Parliament, where the sports minister, Gayton McKenzie, got involved and demanded a deeper audit. That audit found Moloi couldn't produce receipts for around twenty-five grand in rand. He paid it back in November, calling it a simple error. The board then suspended him in early November, with the suspension letter signed by the acting chief exec, Terrence Magogodela. That move itself was weird because Magogodela was also being questioned about card use. With Moloi out, his deputy, John Mathane, had to take over. The disciplinary panel basically looked at how the suspension was handled and decided the process was flawed, especially since Magogodela authorized it while under scrutiny himself. That procedural screwup is a major reason the case got tossed. Now he's just back as president. The whole episode highlights how messy these sports bodies can get, especially when public funding is involved. It probably causes a ton of distraction for actual athletes trying to train and compete. For now, the administrative circus has packed up, and Moloi is back in charge, leaving everyone to wonder what the point of the last few months even was. Classic.
