The remains of founding president Sam Nujoma reached Heroes' Acre cemetery in Windhoek on Saturday for his final resting place. Thousands of attendees observed as President Nangolo Mbumba, serving as chief mourner, accompanied the casket to the burial site. Many regional heads of state paid their respects at the ceremony honoring the Namibian freedom fighter.

Notable dignitaries included South African President Cyril Ramaphosa alongside former President Thabo Mbeki. Additional leaders present were Angolan President João Lourenço, Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa, plus Cuban Communist Party politburo representative Esteban Hernández. These officials gathered to commemorate the significant contributions Nujoma made to his nation.

Nujoma passed away on February 8, prompting authorities to establish a national mourning period lasting 21 days. The ceremony at Heroes' Acre marked the conclusion of these formal remembrance activities. The location serves as the national memorial site where prominent figures who contributed to Namibian independence are honored.

The funeral proceedings brought together people from across society to remember the founding leader who played a crucial role in establishing Namibia as an independent nation. His legacy includes leading the country through its transition from colonial rule to self-governance, making him a central figure in Namibian history.
