MP Calls for Unity in School Block Construction

Ilyas Karim, the Member of Parliament for Chikwawa South Constituency, asked local folks to stand together when putting projects into action. He shared this message Monday at Phandadzinja primary school in Sub-Chief Masache's area as they kicked off a school building project. The World Bank pays for this construction through a program named Governance Enabled Service Delivery (GESD). Lots of people showed up to see the start of the school-building work.

Karim discussed why education is crucial for improving the area. He said education helps people succeed at everything, which explains why he focuses on improving schools first. Since he started representing the area in 2014, Karim has completed many helpful projects. He pointed to improvements he made in health centers, water supply, power lines, and schools, among other things.

During his campaign back in 2019, Karim promised voters he would fix problems with schools, water, and electricity if elected again. He claims he has kept about 90 percent of those campaign promises already. Karim wants voters to come together when building new things for their community. For certain upcoming projects, he mentioned locals might need to pitch in with materials such as sand.

Earlier at the same event, Dr. Sandram Naluso from the Chikwawa District Council addressed the crowd. He asked community members to treat the project as something that belongs to all of them. The school building will help families living nearby, said Dr. Naluso. He encouraged everyone from the area to guard the building materials against thieves during construction.
