Moses Mpofu told the court he feels bad about the Presidential Goat Scheme flopping and apologized to President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa, while his partner, Mike Chimombe, is offering to pay back the government. The two businessmen got convicted for scamming the state out of millions through their fake company Blackdeck, which was supposed to deliver 85,000 goats but only managed 4,000 after scoring an $87 million contract. Mpofu admitted his company ran on bogus tax paperwork but tried claiming the company was responsible rather than him personally, and he says he has zero cash to compensate anyone. Chimombe's lawyer says his client has over a million bucks in assets, including an $800,000 house in Borrowdale, and could use those to settle up with the government. Prosecutors want the judge to throw the book at them with sentences up to 35 years since they robbed vulnerable people, but defense attorneys are begging for leniency. The judge is handing down sentences next week.
