Dr. Musalia Mudavadi, the Prime Cabinet Secretary, said that Kenya will continue to grow and develop by focusing on peace and security. He believes that Kenya's economy will do better if the country is peaceful. Dr. Mudavadi talked about the problems in the nearby countries of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and Sudan. He said that everyone needs to work together to bring peace back to these countries. He mentioned that people from different ethnic groups in the eastern part of the DRC are making things worse. People from other countries are also getting involved, which makes it harder to fix the situation. Dr. Mudavadi thinks that working quickly to bring peace will help not just the DRC and Sudan, but the whole region and even all of Africa. He is sad that the fighting in these places has been going on for a long time. It has killed many people and forced even more to leave their homes. Children, women, and people with disabilities are hurt the most by this. He warned that the fighting could lead to even more problems, like people being treated badly, resources being stolen or sold illegally, and the government losing control. Dr. Mudavadi believes that talking and negotiating is better than fighting to bring peace back to these areas. Kenya wants all the people involved in the conflicts to agree to stop fighting right away. This is what the leaders of the East African Cooperation and the Southern African Development Community decided at a big meeting in Tanzania not long ago. The government of Kenya is considering helping Kenyans who are in dangerous parts of the DRC leave the country. They have opened offices in Goma and Congo Brazzaville where Kenyans can seek help. Dr. Mudavadi promised that the government would keep telling Kenyans about everything it is doing to improve things. He spoke about all of this at a funeral for Mzee Kingi Mwaruwa Mkweha in Kilifi County. Mzee Kingi was the father of Amason Kingi, the Speaker of the Senate in Kenya.
