Musalia Mudavadi, the Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, has scolded Kenyans for speaking badly about their country to the world. He said Kenya is a regional hub that many big media companies choose to work in because of its freedom of speech. Mr. Mudavadi was upset that some Kenyans wrote to the Dutch government. They asked the Dutch to cancel a planned visit by their King and Queen. But Mr. Mudavadi explained that governments invite each other through official channels, not social media. He spoke about this on Saturday when he handed over the ICT ministry to the new Cabinet Secretary, William Kabogo. Mr. Mudavadi said rumors on social media that the Dutch were rethinking their visit were just wishful thinking. He said Kenya and the Netherlands have a strong partnership, with the Dutch investing a lot in Kenya. The Dutch government did get about 300 emails from unhappy Kenyans. The emails asked them to cancel the royal visit. The Dutch Foreign Affairs Ministry replied on Wednesday. They said they knew about the emails and the possible human rights issues in Kenya. But they still plan to go ahead with the visit. They think it will be a good chance to talk about these problems. The Dutch Royal Palace had said earlier that the King's main goal in visiting Kenya is to make new partnerships and strengthen existing ones. Mr. Mudavadi believes Kenya and the Netherlands have a very good relationship that shouldn't be affected by a few people complaining on social media.
