Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen promised help to the mother of a young man who vanished when fishing at Lake Nakuru. The woman had walked up to Murkomen during his talk in the Shabab neighborhood of Nakuru, asking him to step in. Murkomen shared that he met with Elizabeth Auma Ogega later that day after first talking with her at the launch of the National Mobile Registration Outreach Programme. He told her the government would do everything possible to find her missing son, Brian Odhiambo. Brian, age 31, disappeared on January 18. His mother and other witnesses say they watched him being arrested and forced into a vehicle. New information suggests he might have been killed and buried inside Lake Nakuru National Park. Auma marched straight to the stage on Wednesday as Murkomen was speaking. When security tried to block her, Murkomen waved them off, saying to let her come forward. The distressed mother wore a black T-shirt with Justice for My Son printed on the back. She whispered her concerns to Murkomen, who listened carefully before directing her to an official. Murkomen assured her he would address the issue right away and expressed sympathy for her situation. After many days of pleading, Brian's family, along with an informant and human rights groups, were finally allowed into Lake Nakuru National Park on Monday. The Nakuru DCIO Samuel Ngeywa led a search mission looking for Brian's body. This search happened because a brave Kenya Wildlife Service ranger secretly brought an informant into the park. The informant showed several spots where victims of violence were allegedly buried. They found no bodies but noticed the sites appeared recently disturbed. Worried that someone had moved the remains, detectives collected soil samples from each suspected grave for lab testing. Rights activist Hussein Khalid commented after the search that there was clear evidence of digging activity at the site.
