President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni today visited Mrs. Harriet Ahimbisibwe who raises pigs in Kyarukobwa village. He came to see how she used money from the Parish Development Model program. The President said he wants to help people who have little money instead of rich people. Mrs. Ahimbisibwe showed the President her 21 pigs. She started with just two pigs bought with money from the program. The President gave her more money to expand her farm and promised to help her find ways to move around. "I saw someone in the newspaper asking why I visit people with pigs and chickens instead of the well-established. Jesus Christ himself said he came for the poor, not those already doing well," President Museveni said. The President talked about how Uganda has changed since he became leader. He said before only 10% of people earned money from their work. Today, 68% of people earn money from what they do. "Our focus is not on the rich but on those still trapped in poverty. Just like Jesus left the 99 sheep to look for the one that was lost." Mrs. Ahimbisibwe explained how she used her loan of 1 million shillings. She bought two female pigs and some pig food. The pigs had babies: one had nine babies, and one had ten babies. She sold some pigs and made 1.2 million shillings. She bought land with this money. She uses pig waste to help her banana plants grow better. Before, she only had bananas to sell but made little money. The pig farm helps her earn more money and makes her banana plants grow bigger. The President warned leaders not to steal money meant for helping people. "This money is not for the government; it is your money. Leaders must stop thinking the program is not important. Those stealing the funds are letting down their people," he said. President Museveni also said he plans to fix roads in the area to help businesses grow. Many important people, including ministers and members of parliament, came with him on this visit.
