Uganda Takes Big Steps in Making Medicine. President Museveni praised a local drug maker for its work on new medicines. He spoke at an event in Kyotera on Thursday, February 6. The president said Dei BioPharma makes many helpful drugs near Kampala. The company plans to make thirty different kinds of medicine and shots at its building in Matugga. "They are making many kinds of drugs and shots," Museveni said. He thanked Dr. Matthias Magoola, who started the company. The president added that local experts found a way to stop ticks from hurting cattle. Dr. Magoola leads the Dei Group of Companies. He thanks the president for helping local experts make new answers to health problems. The drug-making center has good news for jobs. It plans to hire 40,000 people right away, and many more will find work helping with other parts of making medicine. The center wants to make a billion special shots, following rules set by world health leaders. These leaders say the center can help fight COVID-19 and other sicknesses in Africa. Dei BioPharma makes new medicines and shots in Uganda. Their building sits in the Wakiso district. They work on drugs for many kinds of sickness, from basic health needs to harder problems like cancer. The building has twelve special parts. It follows strict rules from America, Europe, and world health groups. Presidents Museveni and Ruto started this work on July 6, 2021. The company made news in early 2025. On January 7, Dr. Magoola asked for rights to a new shot he made. This shot helps stop a problem that hurts cattle. His answer costs less than what other places charge. This new shot means Uganda might not need to buy cattle medicine from other lands. This would save money for the country and help people who keep cattle, both in Uganda and elsewhere. The work shows how Uganda has grown stronger in making its own medicine and proves that local experts can solve big health problems.
