The M23 rebels claim they have taken over Goma, a key city in North Kivu province. Fighting between the rebels and the Congolese army has reached the city.

Mulimba said Uganda believes the conflict cannot be solved through military means. He said Uganda is monitoring the situation and considers its agreements with the DRC government important.

The African Union has condemned the violence and called on the M23 to stop fighting. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres also expressed deep concern and urged the M23 to cease hostile actions and withdraw.

Over 400,000 people have been displaced in eastern DRC since the start of 2025, according to the UN.
