Big New Ship Makes Travel Faster Between Uganda and Tanzania.
A special ship called MV Mpungu will help move things between Uganda and Tanzania much faster than before. This big boat can carry lots of cargo across Lake Victoria in just 18 hours. Before this ship, people had to wait three or four days for their things to arrive.
Many companies send goods between these two countries. Uganda gives Tanzania things worth $135 million every year. Tanzania sends even more stuff to Uganda, worth $264 million. The new ship will help both countries trade more easily.
The ship will make two trips across the lake every week. This will help companies save money because they won't need trucks to carry everything on the roads. Fresh food will also not spoil as quickly on the faster boat trips. More countries like Kenya might use this boat service later.
Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja likes that the new ship runs safely and uses less fuel than other boats. Minister Fred Byamukama explained that Uganda needs this ship because trucks cost a lot of money. They break down often, use lots of fuel, and hurt the environment. The new ship makes moving things cheaper and better for everyone.
Many people worked hard to build this ship in Entebbe. About 160 workers helped make it, doing important jobs like cutting metal and fixing electrical wires. Half of these skilled workers came from Uganda. The ship company taught 20 new sailors how to work on boats, and many of them were women. The new ship gives jobs to 53 people directly, and many more people will find work because of it.
