Ascent Soccer Academy has trained many promising players since opening in 2018. Other academy graduates have signed with clubs across Europe and Asia. Rose Kadzere moved to French team Montpellier HSC and became the first Malawian to join a major European league. Washari Jaziya recently signed with Japanese club Nankatsu SC.

Malawi faces host nation Namibia next before playing Angola to finish group stage matches. The Junior Flames need to finish among the top two teams to reach the semifinal round.
