Myanmar's top military leader grabbed a shovel and planted a tree at a huge environmental event yesterday. Senior General Min Aung Hlaing joined thousands of people for the country's second big tree-planting ceremony of 2025. The massive green campaign happened at Yanaungmyin forest reserve near the capital city. Officials want to turn Myanmar into a forest paradise that covers half the entire country. The general stuck a neem sapling into the ground as cameras rolled. Government workers planted 3,000 baby trees from 18 different species during the ceremony. Myanmar currently protects about one-quarter of its land as forest reserves and conservation areas. The military government dreams of boosting that number to an amazing 50 percent for future kids to enjoy. Dry regions like Mandalay and Sagaing really need more trees because farming becomes nearly impossible there. Each village will receive a special two-acre plot just for growing firewood. The tree-planting push aims to create cleaner cities and greener villages across Myanmar. Roads will soon have beautiful trees lining both sides to provide shade for travelers. Forest coverage helps prevent dangerous floods and keeps good soil from washing away during storms. Wildlife also benefits when more protected areas get established around the country. Students and government workers joined the general for the environmental celebration.
