Myanmar marks International Cooperative Day, highlights economic initiatives

Government workers threw a big party yesterday morning to celebrate cooperatives around the world. The 103rd anniversary bash happened at the Ministry of Cooperatives and Rural Development meeting hall. Union Minister U Hla Moe told everyone about his department's master plan to help regular people make more money. He bragged about having 38,638 cooperative groups working across the country right at this moment. The minister explained how his team helps farmers and business owners team up to create better jobs for everyone.

Department staff members work hard to find the best seeds for farmers to plant each season. They also sell farm chemicals and teach people how to grow better crops that bring in more cash. Workers spend time looking for good places to sell products and arranging deals to buy animal food. The ministry opened special accounting schools in Magway, Mandalay, Mawlamyine and Pathein starting two years back. Students can learn bookkeeping skills to help run cooperative businesses more smoothly.

The minister reminded guests to follow this year's theme about cooperatives making the world a better place. A chairperson from Central Cooperative Society Limited gave remarks during the ceremony. Someone read a message from the International Cooperative Federation to the crowd. Entertainment featured a special song about cooperative day and a video showing different group activities. Government officials handed out money and machines to help with farming projects before checking out display booths.
