A young man's search ended in grief this week. The family found Mwiti's body at a hospital far from home. He was 24 when he vanished last November.

Police say a car hit him and drove away. But his friends doubt this story. Mwiti worked bringing goods to people. He went missing near the city center, miles from where he died.

His mother searched hard to find him. "We went to many places," said Sadhiya Iman. She looked in morgues until she found her son. "We need answers about his death," she said.

Life had grown hard for Mwiti before he died. He lost his ID card. This meant trouble with the police and problems getting help from the state.

Fear spreads as more young people vanish in Kenya. The human rights group says 82 people have gone missing since last June. Many disappeared after street protests about money rules. Seven cases came in December alone.

The head lawyer wants answers fast. Mulele Ingonga told police to explain these cases by New Year's Day. He speaks of the right to life and safety under Kenya's laws.

The police must act quickly. Ingonga wants a full report in three days. He named several missing people, from Steve Mbisi to artist Gideon Kibet.

The state must protect its people, he said. Both police chiefs and watchdog groups must look into these cases. They must tell what happened to these missing sons and daughters.
