Mzimba health chief lauds engineer for ambulance gift

The top health officer of M'mbelwa District Council thanked Engineer Vitumbiko Mumba for giving two ambulances to help sick people in Mzimba. Dr. Prince Chirwa spoke at the handover event last Friday at the council building. He said these vehicles will help the government bring better health care to people living far from hospitals. The ambulances will make it easier to move patients who need special treatment from small clinics to the main hospital in Mzimba. Many lives may be saved because of this gift.

One ambulance went to Mbalachanda Health Centre and the other to Euthini Rural Hospital. Both places had big problems sending sick patients to bigger hospitals before. Dr. Chirwa shared that Madede and Mtende health centers might also receive help soon. Mumba hopes to run for a seat in the upcoming Malawi Congress Party elections. He said he wanted to fix big problems in health care, mainly for people who live far from cities. He believes no one should die just because they cannot reach a doctor fast enough.

Everyone at the event clapped for Mumba's gift. Health workers, community members, and local chiefs all agreed that the ambulances would help save many lives. This will especially benefit pregnant women, people hurt in accidents, and very sick patients. Traditional Authority Chindi praised this action as true leadership. The chief said he hopes these ambulances will cut down deaths among mothers and babies in the area.

The chief also spoke directly to the Malawi Congress Party leaders. He asked them to ensure that their elections next week stay fair. "No playing favorites. Let people pick who they want to represent them. Forcing candidates will just cause fights," the chief warned. The party plans to hold its first round of voting in that area on Saturday, April 13, 2025. These votes will help decide who runs in the national elections later that year.

Mumba's help comes at an important time for Malawi's health system. Many hospitals across the country face serious problems with transportation. They also need more medical supplies and more workers. These issues make it hard for the country to give good health care to all citizens. The ambulances will help solve at least part of the transportation problem for people in remote villages who need medical help fast.
