Nairobi Governor Sakaja Johnson removed two high-ranking officers from the county revenue department after garbage was dumped illegally near Stima Plaza. The Governor spoke to the Committee on Administration and Internal Security at County Hall and expressed his disapproval of the incident. He made it clear that such actions go against what the county believes and practices. Sakaja also apologized on behalf of his staff and stated the incident should never have happened.
The officers faced punishment because they reportedly ordered the illegal trash dumping. Douglas Kanja, Inspector General of the National Police Service, stated that police began looking into the crime right after it happened. Kanja explained that he was visiting Nigeria when the dumping took place, but authorities started their work immediately after receiving reports. The case moved forward quickly as officials gathered evidence.
Mohamed Amin, who leads the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, explained that staff from Kenya Power and Lighting Company filed a report at Parklands Police Station about the dumping near Stima Plaza. Amin confirmed that his team started investigating based on this report and has taken several people into custody for questioning. The DCI is focusing mainly on who dumped the garbage illegally at that location.
Amin described the garbage dumping as unfortunate and promised his team would perform a complete investigation. He assured the public that anyone found responsible would face legal charges. All three officials agreed that they need better methods for handling these types of situations going forward. They pledged to develop more effective ways to address and solve similar problems as part of future improvements.
