Narok Farmers are happy about a new rule that lets them bring wheat bags to the National Cereals Board and receive money within a month. Agriculture boss Mutahi Kagwe told all farmers to take their wheat to NCPB locations. This plan helped fix a big problem: Farmers had 321,000 bags of wheat sitting around after harvest season. Farmers will receive payment within 30 days after dropping off wheat at warehouses run by the NCPB. The Narok farmers like this new plan because it makes selling wheat much faster. Joyce Keshe from Narok Agriculture talked after the farmers met with the Cereals Group at NCPB. She explained that top wheat will sell for Sh5,300 and second-best wheat for Sh5,200. The farmers were glad the prices stayed the same as before and agreed to bring their crops to NCPB right away. Emily Okwai runs the South Rift NCPB area and says her team is ready to accept wheat at their big storage bins. The workers have prepared everything needed to start right away. They know exactly what makes wheat fit into first—or second-grade categories. Okwai mentioned how happy farmers seemed about starting the selling process immediately. Kagwe spoke on Monday about wanting Kenya to grow more of its wheat instead of buying from other countries. He hopes to raise local growing from eight percent to 40 percent of what flour makers need. The system where NCPB collects wheat also helps track who should receive cheaper fertilizer later on. This cuts growing costs and puts more cash into farmers' pockets. These ideas came from a meeting about farmer problems at Kilimo headquarters.
