Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya stands firm on his comments about abductions. He spoke up at National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang'ula's mother's funeral. His words sparked strong reactions from other leaders there. The clash began when labor leader Francis Atwoli said some people fake their kidnappings to get money from groups that help victims. Natembeya did not agree. He said it hurt families when leaders claim victims stage their disappearances. "I say this with a heavy heart," Natembeya told the crowd. He called it wrong for any leader to suggest people kidnap themselves. National Assembly Leader Kimani Ichung'wah fired back at Natembeya. He said if Natembeya knew about real kidnappings, he should tell the police instead of attacking Atwoli. Ichung'wah brought up Natembeya's past job as regional commissioner, saying similar cases happened then. Natembeya defended his time as commissioner. "I served Kenya with honesty and truth," he said. He earned his role through hard work and left with a clean record. The people of Trans Nzoia later chose him as governor. He explained the real reason for the attacks against him. "Leaders insulted me because I asked the President to stop these kidnappings," he said. "The missing youths' families suffer daily, wondering where their children are." Natembeya made clear that speaking against kidnappings does not mean he opposes the President. He believes leaders must remind the government to follow the law. "I will keep speaking up without fear," he said. "Kenyans want these youth kidnappings to end. Leaders must stand up and say this is wrong."
