Zimbabwe will soon establish drug rehabilitation centers in every province, Vice President Kembo Mohadi said on Saturday. The goal is to address rising substance abuse among young people.

Mohadi spoke at a sports tournament held in his honor in Gwanda, Matabeleland South. The two-day event featured soccer and netball.

"Many youths with a promising future have fallen victim to this scourge," Mohadi said of drug abuse. "The government is putting all efforts to curb this pandemic."

He added that provincial task forces will be set up to fight the problem. The centers will be fully resourced and functional.

Mohadi noted other challenges facing youth in the region. These include unemployment and dropping out of school to migrate illegally.

The government is working with partners to address the root causes, he said. The goal is to enhance access to services and promote youth empowerment.

Mohadi praised the tournament organizers for honoring him and pledged the government's continued support for programs that uplift youth.

"The attainment of Vision 2030 is hinged upon empowerment of youths," he said. Vision 2030 aims to make Zimbabwe an upper-middle-income economy.

Mohadi encouraged youth to demand inclusion in development programs. "The youths should stand up and be included," he said.

He expressed appreciation to the ruling party's youth league for organizing the event. Mohadi promised ongoing cooperation on initiatives benefiting the province and nation.
