Senator Ali Ndume from Borno South revealed how President Bola Tinubu left behind former Rivers State Governor Chibuike Amaechi after winning the 2023 election. Ndume served as campaign manager for Amaechi during the All Progressives Congress primary race. Amaechi finished second behind Tinubu during that contest. The two politicians were once close allies but their relationship has broken down since the general election ended. Amaechi leads a group of political figures who oppose Tinubu running again for president during the 2027 election. Ndume spoke about these events during a television interview with Arise News. The senator explained that Tinubu wanted to bring Amaechi into his new government after the primary election ended. Several officials contacted Ndume to arrange a meeting between the president and the former governor. The 65-year-old senator said he has worked in politics for 24 years and believes in telling the truth about what happened. Ndume recalled that Amaechi received 315 votes during the primary contest against Tinubu. Lagos Governor Sanwo-Olu and the current Defense Minister helped arrange the planned meeting between Tinubu and Amaechi. The president wanted both men to join his administration and work together moving forward. Ndume had to travel for Hajj pilgrimage before the meeting could happen. Both sides agreed to meet after he returned from the religious trip. However that meeting never took place and Tinubu abandoned his plans to include Amaechi in the government.
