Nees Picks Warriors for Qualifiers Against Benin and Nigeria

Warriors head coach Micheal Nees has assembled a dynamic squad ready to battle Benin and Nigeria during the upcoming 2026 World Cup Qualifiers. Zimbabwe will kick off their campaign by hosting Benin at Moses Mabhidha stadium in South Africa on March 20, then jet to Nigeria for a crucial match five days later.

The team desperately needs a turnaround. It is currently languishing at the bottom of Group C with just two points from four matches. The most exciting comeback involves Knowledge Musona, a veteran forward from Al Akhdoud who returned after retiring from national duty in 2022. Musona previously captained the Warriors during two African Cup of Nations tournaments in Egypt and Cameroon.

Nees expressed enthusiasm about Musona's return, highlighting the veteran's experience and potential to provide backup across different positions as they prepare for upcoming competitions. The coach revealed Musona could have rejoined the team earlier, mentioning he was always willing to return and would have been available during potential crises.

Scottland has made the biggest splash by contributing five players to the squad: Godknows Murwira, Khama Billiat, Tymon Machope, Mthokozisi Msebe, and Peter Mudhuwa. Nees also noted several standby players who might be called up if injuries strike during camp preparations. The Warriors are banking on this carefully selected lineup to climb out of their current qualifying group standing and reignite their World Cup campaign.
