After twenty years without a leader, the Ningo people finally have a new chief. The National House of Chiefs named Abednego Tawia Gblie Osroagbo as the big boss of Ningo land last week. He runs things in the Greater Accra Region, where Old Ningo sits. The previous leader, Samuel Narh Osroagbo, died back in September 2005. Since then, nobody has filled his shoes because people kept fighting about who should take over. Legal battles dragged through every court possible. The case started at the Regional House of Chiefs, then moved up to the National House. The Supreme Court finally settled everything last November. During those empty years, another man named Nene Kanor Attiapah III stepped in temporarily as acting chief. He helped keep traditions alive until a permanent replacement came along. Sadly, he passed away before seeing the final decision. The National House of Chiefs picked the 56-year-old Abednego at the end of March and gave him a special title—Nene Osroagbo Djangmah XII. Just days later, on April 3, local chiefs put him in charge during a ceremony at the Ningo Traditional Council building. When he spoke to everyone there, the new chief said something interesting. He claimed all those years of arguing actually brought people closer together, making them stronger as a community. He talked about how Ningo's history shows both good times and bad times. When folks worked together, they grew stronger. When they fought, nothing moved forward. The twenty-year wait for a real chief stopped many helpful projects from happening. He wants to bring business back to Ningo fast. Farming sits high on his list of priorities. He plans to ask the government for better equipment and chemicals that help crops grow. This might solve food problems in the area. Ningo has many chances for business success, but bad roads hold everything back. The new chief promises to push hard for better roads throughout his territory. He also cares deeply about keeping places clean. Dirty areas make people sick, he says. He wants regular cleanup efforts to protect everyone's health. At the end of his speech, he thanked all the chiefs and elders who supported him. He asked everyone to stick together and build the peace that Ningo has needed for such a long time.
